What is a”Hope Lalli?
The “Hope Lalli” is a member of the copyrighted, colorful line of cloth dolls, “Lallipops”, that was created by Iia Owens-Williamson in 1999. “Hope” was included in this collection in 2002 when both the artist and her sister, Chez Chapman, underwent biopsies for breast lumps. The artist’s biopsy proved to be negative but her sister’s results were positive.
Chez Chapman was the first to receive the “Hope Lalli” Breast Cancer Comfort Doll.
The wonderful thing about the “Hope Lalli” is that it’s made for hugging and each is customized and made to resemble the recipient. In addition, each doll is named and is accompanied by a special commitment from “Hope”, a journal, a lollipop, and a certificate of authenticity.
Chez has since handed over her “Hope Lalli” on February 5, 2006. She’s left the rest of us to carry “Hope” to a cure.
Today, “Hope” continues to move forward comforting those men, women and children whose lives have been touched by this dreadful disease.
